I saw your face in a way I never thought I would.
You looked like a dead animal hit in the road.
Caught at the wrong time crossing the street..
You must've known how you would look,
because everything I felt pushed me away from your body and towards the police officers.
I never even had a chance to see the white sheet covering you.
When they showed me the crime photos,
I felt odd knowing that where you laid in the sidewalk was what I knew to be the truth.
Someone tried telling me you laid in the grass, and I didn't believe them..
How weird it felt to know they were wrong.
You have been with me this whole time.
I love you Mom.
Maybe the next life you get,
you won't waste it arguing
only to end up a dead animal in the road.
It wasn't your fault,
but I know you must have been embarrassed.
How I love you still.
It wasn't your fault.
